If there’s one thing we know and treasure about Cincinnati, it’s that this city goes bonkers for baseball. From the annual Opening Day Parade to the All-Star Game, we love, love, love being taken out to the ball game. When the Cincinnati Reds asked us to develop their home stadium “opener”—the video that plays while the Reds storm the field at the start of the game—we were thrilled. After the yelling stopped, we got to work.
They wanted grungy, gritty, badass, and red. An opener that brought fans to their feet and sent peanut shells flying. With a combination of 2D animation, composited images and provided footage, and a whole host of brush strokes and textures, we created what you see below.
The piece debuted Opening Day on Great American Ball Park’s main screen and played throughout the 2017 season.
